London's Royal College to exhibit Iran art London's Royal College of Art is slated to mount an exhibition of works by a group of young Iranian artists in the British capital.
The exhibition will display paintings, photographs, sculptures and new media artworks by the finalists of the Magic of Persia Contemporary Art Prize (MOP CAP).
MOP CAP is the first award to globally recognize the talent of emerging Iranian artists and is designed to support and promote their career development.
Farhad Ahrarnia (new media), Mahmoud Bakhshi Moakhar (sculptor), Vahid Chamani (painter), Sahand Hesamiyan (sculptor), Abbas Kowsari (photographer) and Newsha Tavakkolian (photographer) have been selected by an international jury, led by Sheena Wagstaff, Chief Curator of the Tate Modern.
Presented by the London-based charity Magic of Persia, in collaboration with the London and Tehran-based cultural consultancy Candlestar, the exhibition will be held from Oct. 15 to 17, 2009.
The final winner of MOP CAP will be announced on Oct. 17 and will be given the opportunity to mount a solo exhibition of his/her works at a major London gallery.
The works of the finalists will be auctioned by Christie's with half of the proceeds going to the participating artists and half to support the residency program established by the Magic of Persia.
